Centrist accidentally demonstrates overwhelming historical tendency of centrists to side with fascists

“I would rather we have a dictator, lose all our rights, and start committing genocide against loads of groups than give people healthcare, livable wages, and housing” -Literally what this says

I think I’d translate that as something closer to “I hunger for acceptance to such a terrifying degree that I prefer slavery and the absolute removal of every personal choice over the chance that I might be no better or more deserving than any other person in this country.”

But your mileage may vary…

people are capable of beautiful things

i thought this was going in a bad direction

“I earned more money than I knew what to do with, and I didn’t want to forget my roots. So I paid back the people who helped me and my family.” He’s also giving elderly and low income people three free meals a day.

Past a certain point, extra money doesn’t really benefit you, so give it those that would benefit. Quit letting people hoard ludicrous amounts of money out of vanity when others need it so much more.

Men like to believe theyd be great in apocalypse scenarios but they dont even know how to sew

Some male friends of mine were once talking about how useful they’d be in an apocalypse, and I pointed out that as a weaver and sewer and maker of stuff, I’d be pretty damn useful and they tried to tell me they could just loot clothes from WalMart and they’d be fine. As if WalMart has endless supplies without weekly deliveries.

So just last night a friend of mine was talking about who he’d round up in the event of a zombie apocalypse and how I’m his go-to farmer on account of I know how to keep an entire homestead up and running and we’re talking about what kind of resources I’d need to keep a colony of about 50-ish people alive and i bring up what all goes into processing wool for clothing and such and he just kind of stops me like ‘wait, wait, we don’t need to do all of that because we can scavenge for clothes we don’t need to be able to make them’ and i’m just like, ‘dude, that works in the short-term maybe but if this community is going to be sustainable you’ve gotta have people whose job it is to make clothes and blankets and shit’

also cloth rots pretty quickly when left exposed to the elements and after the first few years or so anything we manage to scavenge isn’t going to be wearable anymore and anywho we’ve got to teach the kids everything or they’re not gonna know what to do some decades down the line when everything’s too rusted or rotted out to be of any practical use anymore, etc etc, and he’s reckoning that things like woodworking and smithing and ranching are more important than say, cleaning or cooking or dairying and meanwhile i’m just smh may all the gods have mercy on this poor fool

He also balked when i brought up how to run a laundry and what all was needed to make everyday shit like soap and toothpaste – like dude, you think this is going to be all about hunting and scavenging and being neato manly-man drifters like in the walking dead let me teach you a thing about keeping a village alive and healthy for more than a week man most of it is shit you keep thinking is non-essential on account of it being “women’s work” or “simple chores” that’re actually pretty labor-intensive and take time, training, knowledge, and practice to do successfully, let alone well, and are 100% absolutely necessary work in order for you to have any reasonably good quality of life after the world ends

Elizabeth David, hold my hand when things go bad in this promised land,
Till we learn to live within our means again,
It’s the stock and the cellar and the hearth and the hive
That decide who falls and who survives
And we’re going to need our kitchen heroes then…

Major Climate Report Describes a Strong Risk of Crisis as Early as 2040

allthecanadianpolitics:

In light of this UN climate change report, I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say that Trudeau and Notley’s continued insistence on building the Kinder Morgan pipeline is supporting humanity’s extinction. According to the report, simply going on the path we’re already on will result in a 1.5 degrees celsius rise in global temperature by 2040, which would be catastrophic. So not only do we not need to build the pipeline, Canada (and the world as a whole) needs to be going aggressively in the other direction just to avert the absolute worst case scenario.

Like when I say ‘white people need to talk to bigots because bigots don’t listen to minorities’ I did not say ‘and it will be easy and fun’.

I know it’s easier to be like ~boo hooo the world is so evil and there’s nothing I can dooo~ but it’s statistically and experientially understood, just by fucking 3rd grade logic, that a bigot will be less amenable towards the subject of their bigotry.

Bigots don’t just ~not like~ minorities- they don’t think we’re human. It’s not about whether they agree with you or not in the moment. Like, pause.

Understand this:

Calls to action for white people to oppose bigotry are calls for white people to position themselves as opposition. THEY ARE NOT CALLS FOR ~SUCCESSFUL DEBATE~

Do not think you are expected nor are you likely to just go around arguing with bigots and they’ll go ‘I agree with you because you’re white!’.

Your job is to be sandpaper.

Every time they open their mouths to make a bigoted joke, or a bigoted remark, or post their shitty bigoted opinion online, you grate against them.

Your job is to make it hard to be a bigot or a fascist. Your job is to ostracize them. Your job is to speak over them the way they love to speak over minorities. Your job is to make it difficult, lonely, annoying, stressful and unwelcome to be a bigot.

When you are white and silent, You are making it easy. You are just letting it happen.

When minorities speak up for themselves, they are in danger, and the bigot just writes off our arguments as the chattering of ‘lessers’.

You, white people, whether you think so or not, are their peers.

Specifically those of you who look and talk like, to an outside observation, your average white american.

Bigots think you all think like them, but are too scared to say it. That, or you’re too much of a coward to stop them.

YOUR JOB IS TO PUSH BACK AND PROVE THEM WRONG.

YOUR JOB IS TO SEPARATE THEM FROM THEIR OWN COMMUNITY AT LARGE.

There are devils among you and if you want to stop being associated with them then fucking prove it. You’re pretty much the only people who can.

Take note. Allyship ain’t fun and games. It’s work. – Kalilah

Hot take but anger can be a very good emotion for women to allow themselves to experience. Anger isn’t inherently toxic. No emotion is inherently toxic but women are socialized to believe anything less than absolute accommodation and Pleasantness is Bad

Anger saved my life.

This is why I accepted that I feel and can and should express emotions that I feel as a human being. I shouldn’t hold myself back in my emotions to please others. Please be angry if you are.

Vaguely threatening letter from Dole to the artist who made these.

Dole’s required to defend their trademarks or they might lose them. That vaguely threatening letter reads to me as “I have to legally say this but I don’t want to because I’m laughing too hard and they’re actually giving us marketing, but…I have to say it.”
