! Those leg designs are straight off of Theo Jansen’s Strandbeests!

Theo Jansen is a Dutch artist who makes “evolves” these pvc-boned, beach dwelling, wind powered kinetic sculptures he terms Strandbeests.

The leg structure is a design of his own creation, and is a beautiful attachment of two four-bar linkages to a crankshaft. It’s actually really bloody impressive. Really, really, really bloody impressive.
