edda-for-dummies:

More character sketches – this time for Sif, Thor’s wife, whose role in most stories she features in is that of a vain and disloyal bride. In a religious sense she has most likely been a harvest goddess, which also affected her colour palette here.

Thor spoke:
“Your mouthing off / will breed much ill
If I cross these waves.
And you will howl / worse than a wolf
If I give you a strike with my hammer.

Harbardr spoke:
“Sif has a whore-man / I think you’d want to see.
For that save your strength / more dire is the need.”

Harbardr’s song 47-48, Elder Edda.

“Sif’s hair” is a kenning (a poetic name) for gold, because she has golden hair forged by dwarves and/or because crops turn golden before harvest time. I went with more of a headscarf/tiara type combo that has been reconstrued from grave remains around the Baltic Sea, and switched the scarf itself for a set of golden threads/chains.
This set of replica jewellery by Kalevala Koru (a Finnish jewellery company) has the type of head accessory I used as inspiration:

Really like this idea for Sif’s “Golden Hair” forged by the dwarves?! It’ s a really beautiful concept. Any chance of getting a picture of it from the back?
