listen my dude, unsure if you know but the day I came out as trans my breasts didn’t immediately retract into my body. they continue to exist. and wearing a binder – no matter how well it fits – for hours on end day in day out becomes unbelievably uncomfortable. wearing a bra as a trans guy doesn’t make you a Bad Trans™. can we stop putting expectations on trans people to perform to the Good Trans Person Standards and being terrible to them when they don’t. other words, can people mind their own fuckin business when it comes to other people’s bodies and what they do with them lmfao
this goes for giving trans women shit for not shaving too. there are a hundred and one reasons why someone may choose not to shave or not be able to. people empower cis women for not shaving (which is perfectly fine and great) and in the same breathe shame a trans woman for not choosing to shave. don’t force a higher standard of presentation onto trans people, especially when those presentations are rooted in stale expectations of gender.

So over the past 10-15 years, as I’ve been trying to branch out, grow a following and sell commissions, there’s one phrase I’ve heard more than any other.
“I’d love to support you, but I have no money.”
And you know, I get that. I understand. I don’t have any either. But here’s the secret. The most powerful and useful thing you can do to support an artist? It doesn’t cost a penny. Reblog their posts, signal boost their commissions, advertise their patreon./ If you have commissioned them, or do support their patreon? Write a review, tell your friends, share their links. Keep circulating the tapes.
Every post is an artist laying themselves bare before you. You have the power to make them into somebody. You can make them into a big name, you can help bring them an income. All you have to do is share.

If artists get only likes, they never get any exposure. They find no followers, they make no money, and feel worthless.
But with reblogs, who knows how far they could reach? New people could see their work and follow them, and maybe one person will spot that commissions post or patreon promo, and maybe offer to help support them. And it didn’t even cost those followers a penny to reblog the post.
So please, anyone out there. If you enjoy an artist’s work and can’t afford to give any monetary support, you can give them something more powerful. A voice.

Especially when you remove the credit, you break the web of connections. Only only only ever repost an artist’s context if you have ALREADY asked them and they have ALREADY given EXPLICIT permission
Actively telling people that their hope is worthless and we’re all fucked so why even bother, is actively harmful and further enables those who are trying to do us harm. Why are you empowering those people? Why are you doing their job for them?
Look, I get it. I’m one more symbolic goosestep away from having a complete mental breakdown. I honestly just want to lay down and cry and let the darkness take me at this point. But I can’t. I fucking can’t because I have a duty and a responsibility as a human being to burn as hard and bright as I possibly can in the hopes that it does matter and that it will matter and that sometime soon, things will get better. If not for me, then for the generations to come.
No one says these things thinking it will be easy. It is not easy. Do not mistake my hope for naivety. I know it will be hard, I know it will hurt. But I have weighed the cost of apathy and it is a price too high to pay.
Self care, get professional help, learn to use your rage and fear as a source of power instead of a cause of stagnation. And fucking get your head in the game because it’s going to take all of us to recover from this.
The sun will still keep rising long after we’re gone as a species. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t rise to meet it.
