I JUST learned that this shirt cost them $10,000 to put into this movie… but they refused to compromise because they were like: he’s the hugest Golden Girls fan… this has to make the movie… so they paid $10,000 to use Bea Arthur’s likeness on this shirt…  Ryan Reynolds, you’re doing Deadpool so right.

They traded all the guns in the final climactic showdown for Bea Arthur’s face. Worth it.

Reynolds paid it himself, out of pocket. It didn’t come from the budget. He talked with Bea’s sons and they agreed to it for a donation to Bea’s favorite charity. ☺️

I did not know that. That’s so much better than I could have imagined.

It’s a good metaphor tho, because the situation is never going to get better if you don’t eventually pull the door. And afterwards, no matter what the damage was, you’ll have a working cabinet, whatever plates you could salvage, and a place to start putting new plates.

Reblogging for that comment ^

Hats off for negative jokes turned to wholesome posts

[Artemisia] Gentileschi, however, brings out an element of the biblical story no male artist had ever dwelt on. In most paintings, including Caravaggio’s hallucinatory rendering, Judith has a servant who waits to collect the severed head. But Gentileschi makes the servant a strong young woman who actively participates in the killing. This does two things. It adds a savage realism that even Caravaggio never thought of – it would take two women to kill this brute. But it also gives the scene a revolutionary implication. “What,” wonders Gentileschi, “if women got together? Could we fight back against a world ruled by men?”

It is disappointing to me as a fan sometimes to see characters go through traumas that affect people in real life and have it be not only glossed over but sometimes ignored completely. Action shows and movies can be particularly guilty of this and it dosn’tt give due representation for these things.

I have however come across a couple of quotes from an actor that affected because it showed understanding and respect not only for their character but also for issues that do affect people in RL as well.

Starting with this one.

image

Sebastian is talking about playing Bucky Barnes im Captain America: The Winter Soldier. A superhero movie, which like a lot of action movies, could"ve half-asses this kind of stuff but didn’t.

Bucky has been tortured and brainwashed to the point where he dosen’t even remember who he is but at points in this movie he starts having flashes of memory that confuse and upset him and cause him to lash out at not only but towards Steve as well. And this is made worse by the abuse we see inflicted om him by his captors.. And the fact that people who suffer from this are abused sometimes hurts to think about.

The reason this affected me was because its happening in my family with a couple of relatives. One of whom is my Aunt and I brought up this quote and the scenes in the movies with my father over dinner and sparked a conversation over this subject with him about his sister, which is a difficult subject for him as you can understand. But it was because of this I was able to bring it up and frame it in a way we could talk about it. And that to me is wonderful.

I found what Sebastian said to be refreshing and insightful om a difficult subject. And the fact that this showed so much in his performance as Bucky, down to the journal keeping that Bucky did to collect his scattered memories (which wasn’t shown onscreen but was told to us by Seb) was just an amazing portrayal of the suffering some people go through. Even if the characters circumstances are different the dedication to detail is important.

And btw writing down memories as you remember is something that is encouraged for memory problems. Which he said Bucky did. Like I said, detail.

The other one was this answer to an IG question by a fan that asked ‘Does Bucky understand he is not responsible for his actions while under Hydras control?’

image

Classic guilt response. Even though you know that you are not responsible while not in your right mind you still FEEL responsible. People often blame themselves for things that are not their fault.

The nightmare for him is he did it and can remember doing it which only adds to the PTSD that he suffers from. He is affected not only by the trauma of what was done to him but what he was made to do as well. It’s to the point where he dosen’t even want to fight anymore and just wants a safe place to recover. And the sad thing is no amount of telling him he’s not responsible will make him believe it.

Seb is an actor who understands and respects the trauma his character has been though even if it is a superhero movie based on a comic book. These characters have issues that people suffer from in RL and its nice to see actors that respect this and try to do right by them. Because in many ways it is proper representation for these things and I applaud that. I’d like to see more of it.

The state of Kerala, India, is experiencing one of the worst floods since 1924. Over 20,000 houses have been damaged completely and 10,000 km of roads have been destroyed. Essential services have taken a hit, with shortages in medical supplies and drinking water reported from several places. A red alert has been issued in 11 of the 14 districts.

324 people have lost their lives since the rains started on May 29. Over half of them – 190 across 14 districts – have died in the last few days. Over 314,000 people have been moved to relief camps across the state with many more still missing or unreachable.

AnboduKochi is a non-profit organisation that has been one of the largest groups to provide relief support in Kochi, they need cash to transport all the donations they have been getting and make sure it gets to the relief camps.

keralarescue.in is an initiative by Govt. of Kerala, Kerala State IT Mission and IEEE Kerala Section for effective collaboration and communications between authorities, volunteers and public

Google has put out a consolidated and pin-dropped list of centres providing rescue ops, including shelters, food and water, medicine and essentials, volunteers, Jeep rescue and ambulances, among others.

In case you are looking for someone stranded in Kerala or have information about someone, use the Person Finder, which crowdsources information, to help.

Below are some ways to donate and help rebuild the lives of those affected.

The Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF) is 100% exempt from tax and “is an emergency assistance release mechanism granting immediate relief to families and individuals distressed by calamity, loss of life due to accidents and chronic diseases.”

Hi! I am not sure if any of my followers saw, but I’ve been
saying it is pretty bad for Kerala right now. (PS: I’m safe right now, and my
family has moved to shelters or high-level areas).

Just in case, if you didn’t know, Kerala is a small state in the
south-west part of India. We are mainly known for our cynicism, sarcasm, and
our love of going to “The Gulf”. We are that part of India that had Muslims before the Mughals Invasion and Christians before the British Invasion
and lived more-or-less in harmony with each other throughout. We love our
socialism, our love of eating beef, and generally trying
to resist the majoritarian principles of rest of the country.

And currently, Kerala is trembling under the fury of the
monsoon

There has been incessant rain for the past three weeks, and
most parts of Kerala are flooded. Till yesterday , 12 out of 14 districts were on
Red Alert
. All 44 rivers on this small strip of land was overflowing.
As the rains continued, most lakes, reservoirs, and dams got filled and 33
dams were opened
. And the outflow of these dams combined with rainwater rushed through towns and cities alike.

image

There has been landslides, sudden top soil movement and road
collapses throughout the state, but especially in hilly areas. Most bridges,
roads (including National Highways) are either completely destroyed or flooded beyond
use.

image
image
image

Ten thousands of homes have been inundated and families have
moved away.  People and entire cities
& towns have been marooned.

image
image
image

This man is inside his home; neck-deep in water [he made this
video and shared it through social media in an effort to get noticed and
rescued]:

image

The Kochi International Airport is flooded and would be shut
down for ten days. Railways are jammed and most roads are flooded. Most dams are open and cities have turned into lakes and
rivers. The fact that there are water disputes with neighbouring states and state-level
& national-level politics involved doesn’t help the common people of Kerala
either.

This is not a water-tank over-flowing.

It’s an entire dam that is overflowing
(the Peringalkutthu dam, to be precise):

image

The death toll is currently estimated to be about 300 and over 3 lakh individuals have been displaced.

It is only because of high inter-connectivity and an educated
population that the death toll has been under control.

image
image
image

And this is just the beginning:

  • Those who are rescued has to deal with extensive
    property damage.
  • Farmers have to deal with huge crop loss.
  • Most rescue shelters are running out of food and
    medicines
  • Food shortage will continue even after the floods
as most of our food comes from Tamil Nadu/Andhra Pradesh, and the roads and railways connecting
    the two states are flooded.
  • Roads, Bridges and Communication channels will
    have to be rebuilt.
  • Outbreaks of water-borne diseases as water will
    get contaminated
  • Outbreaks of mosquito-born diseases like Dengue
    fever as stagnant water persists.

Large sections of Kerala is flooded. Kochi has come to a halt.

Seriously, we are in big trouble. So, if you can donate,
please do

This honestly makes me want to cry…

You absolute pieces of shit, how could you say that about your own character.

Shiro is such a complicated and strong character, he has suffred so much and despite all that, he is still such a good and kind person.

He wants to help, he wants to protect, he wants to be a paladin cuz it the most fullfiling in his eyes, and its the only good thing that happend to him in so long!

Despite all he has been trough he is still wonderfull and because of that he’s boring?

……fuck you.

how do fans read shit like this and still believe that these people actually love shiro and care about doing the best they can with this character. sorry that so many of you think it’s more likely that ‘shiro stans’ are overreacting overemotional idiots than that people running a business can strategically play up something for rep points and still resent and misrepresent their own creation. honestly i’m afraid to imagine what would have become of shiro as a character if they were literally the only ones in charge of this story and others like studio mir, josh keaton, the first seasons’ writing staff, the Evil Pro-Shiro Execs™ etc had not been putting in so much great effort at any point.

@voltron and @dreamworksanimation

Paladin is not a regular word in most people’s vocabulary; I know adults who aren’t familiar. Kids? Highly unlikely.

From the beginning, VLD did a solid job in setting up the meaning via context: being a paladin means being a hero. It means taking on this duty of defending the universe even when you’d really rather be home, or someplace safe and not scary, or with your family. It’s something to aspire to. It takes work, but it’s worth it. Being a hero is a good thing.

@dreamworksanimation@voltron why would you put these two in charge of the story if they can’t embrace this simple, core, concept? All I see is cynicism.

Reread the interviews but switch the words, because VLD made a point of making them synonyms. “You’re boring because being a hero is all you want to do. You don’t have enough creativity to think of anything except being a hero.”

Season 7 should come with a warning label for any parents aiming for positive messages for their kids. Season 7 says: if you’ve been hurt, if you’ve been flawed and made mistakes, if you’re disabled or imperfect… you don’t get to be a hero. You might support from the sidelines, but you’ve lost the right to call yourself a hero.

And don’t give me that “oh but he got to do this other thing that was cool, he’s still a hero.” Not by the story’s standards, he’s not. The story went out of its way to discount Allura’s efforts as the team’s commander, and to frame becoming a paladin as the point where her contributions finally had true heroic value. After 52 episodes of arguing the only status that matters is being a paladin, it cannot now argue that losing that status is anything but a demotion in the opposite direction.

No amount of titles or powerful ships is going to change that. It didn’t matter when it was Allura in the castle, and it won’t matter now that it’s Shiro in the Atlas. If you think kids can’t get that message loud and clear, you’re as blind to the story as the EPs themselves.

@netflix @voltron @dreamworksanimation Please read this. It’s offensive and horrifying. Is this really the message you want to convey? Because this is the message being presented.
