I’m confused by all these posts about “saying no to racist paganism” – How is it racist to recognize that germanic historical beliefs belong to a specific ethnic group – germanics? If you aren’t germanic, you have your own ethnicity, and with it a history and a paganism native to YOUR ethnicity. You will find your beliefs and abilities to be much stronger when your religion resonates directly with your ancestral blood. There’s no need and no sense for you to practice the religion of another tribe, you’re robbing yourself of your own heritage, and us of ours.
Because Germanic people were never 100% white. Because viking travels brought Germanic faiths to other parts of the world, where they shared it openly and were likely themselves interested and influenced by the various other religions they encountered. Because they allowed people they met to join their ranks, regardless of what they happened to look like.
Germanic Paganism was always inclusive. Playing gate-keeper for it now is just racist and has absolutely nothing to do with honouring your ancestry. If you really wanted to honour your ancestry, you’d pick up an actual book and learn about them and what they were really like, and honour that.
You’re arguing with a Nazi / Nazi sympathizer. You’ll get nowhere.
Because I’m not interested in arguing with a Nazi, but want to share some good advice with my followers:
My Indigenous studies teacher once said to our class when he was teaching about Indigenous people and Christianity something that I feel applies here:
“We came to this land and stole their culture and their children with Guns, Germs and Steel. Absolutely no white person has a right to complain when any person of colour chooses to participate in any of our cultural events or religions. We lost that right when we took theirs.”
Just some food for thought.
*Edit: Not legitimately closed religions (Judaism), there is room for complexity here*
