I joined a medieval reinactment society – because it looked fun, it was cheaper than a martial arts club, it offers a range of crafts, and I get to spend several hours a week hitting people with a sword – and every time we take what would be considered a lethal blow while sparring (so arteries, spine, and belly with some force in it) we have to pretend to die.
